I would like to take this opportunity to explain to everyone in our school community the measures we incorporate at North Augusta High School on a daily basis to ensure the safety of our children as they attend classes throughout the school day. The North Augusta High School administration, faculty, and staff serve at duty stations around campus prior to the opening of school, during transition times, and at the closing of school to ensure students are behaving properly and to address any safety issues that may exist. Faculty and staff members are required to keep classroom doors locked during instructional times. Faculty and staff members are required to be in hallways around campus during transition times. North Augusta High School also employs two safety monitors that are assigned strategic areas of campus during the school day to ensure proper protocols for safety are being followed. All visitors to our school are required to be buzzed in at the main office and are required to pass an online safety check before being allowed to interact with our students or teachers. Anyone present at North Augusta High School is subject to being searched at any time for inappropriate items. Metal detectors may be used for searches at the discretion of the North Augusta High School administration. In North Augusta, we are most fortunate to have the support of the North Augusta Department of Public Safety. Public Safety Officers assist the North Augusta High School administration with a strong presence in strategic areas of campus. It is important to note that the North Augusta Department of Public Safety has made plans to assign a permanent officer to North Augusta High School. This proactive approach to safety at North Augusta High School will allow us to have two officers on campus daily. Please join me in thanking Chief Thomas, North Augusta Department of Public Safety officials, and the city of North Augusta for their support of our school. If you believe a concern exists that may need to be addressed, please do not hesitate to call, email, or come see me at North Augusta High School. The safety and success of our children is of the utmost importance to me.
